
The Elkhorn Valley Lady Falcons are headed to the Girls State Basketball Tournament, and KBRX is planning on bringing you all the action. They are the #2 Seed with a perfect record of 26-0, with Pender getting the #1 seed at 25-2. Elkhorn Valley will play Crofton on Wednesday, March 4, at 1:30 pm at the Devaney Center, and you can hear it on 102.9 FM & KBRX.com
And you will find this interesting. If you take a look at the 2026 NSAA Girls State Basketball program, you will see that the KBRX area is well represented in the coaching field, playing field, and even the officiating.
For Elkhorn Valley, Assistant Coach Sara Black is a Lynch High School alumnus. Head Coach for Crofton is Maggie Moon, married to St. Mary’s alumni Adam Moon, and Angie Connot, married to John Connot, who played for Spencer-Naper, is an assistant coach for Crofton
Also, in C2, Guardian Angels Central Catholic is coached by Stuart native Jerry Stracke. They play Oakland Craig at 3:15 pm on Wednesday at the Devaney Center.
In D1, the Bloomfield Bees are the #1 seed with a 26-0 record. They will play their first game on Thursday, March 5, at 9:00 am against Arapahoe. And the head coach for Arapahoe is Orchard, Nebraska native Preston Blackmore.
Another head coach in D1 is from our area Kim (Boettcher) Stengel. She is the head coach of Maywood Hayes Center, the #3 seed, and a St. Mary’s High School graduate, and they will play on Wednesday, March 4 at 7:45 pm against Howells-Dodge.
In D2, Dundy County Stratton is the #1 seed at 25-1, and the head coach is O’Neill Public High School graduate Matt Schaub. They will play on Wednesday, March 4 at 9 am against Loomis at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
In Class B, Kendra Hagberg (Hansen), a former Chambers Coyote, is an Assistant Coach for #1 Seed Norris. They play on Thursday at 1:30 pm against Blair at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Also in Class B, Harper Bohaboj, the third leading scorer for Bennington, is the daughter of Rita & Kurt Bohaboj. Her mom Rita (Kitchens) is an O’Neill High School graduate. They play Scottsbluff at 6 pm Thursday.
In Class A, Ashtyn Hedlund is an Assistant Coach for Kearney. She is the daughter of Randy and Tracy (Ellwanger) Hedlund, Randy was an O’Neill High School Graduate and Tracy graduated from Butte. Kearney plays Lincoln Southwest on Wednesday at 6 pm at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
And if you watch the Class A Final Championship game on Saturday at 1 pm at Pinnacle Bank Arena, you will see 2012 O’Neill High School graduate Kelsey Appleby refereeing the game.
