The 7th annual Irish ‘Toberfest Bags, Brew, & BBQ took place on Saturday, September 13th, and it was amazing. The weather was great, and the Christensen Farms Prairie Fresh ribs were some of the best we have ever cooked. Several of our judges stated that the teams, as a group, turned in the best ribs they have ever judged.

On to the Awards, In the Blind Judged category, the J&S TV team won the championship and took home the big trophy.  In second place was Kicken’ Bull BBQ, third place was Very Good BBQ, 4th place was Saucy Porkers, and 5th place was the Sandhills Grillers.

For the People’s Choice Awards, the Champions were S.M.o.K.e. BBQ, second place was The Pork Swords, third place was Weekend Bum BBQ, 4th place was The Saucy Porkers, and 5th place was 22 BBQ.

The Home Brew Contest was one of the best ones yet.  All of the beers were very good.  We are blessed to have these people live in our county and share their talents with us.  There were three categories this year: Saisons, IPAs, and People’s Choice. Tyler Hilger won the Saison category with his Spelt Saison. Rancher Belly Brewery won the IPA category with his Raspberry Milkshake IPA. Tim Gleason of Shamrock Brewery won the People’s Choice with his Elderberry Wheat Beer. After the contest, there was some great discussion amongst the brewers on making the event even better next year so stay tuned.

The Winner of the Krotters Home Center Pit Boss Sportsman 1100 grill was none other than the Second Place BBQ-er, Mark May of Kicken’ Bull BBQ.  Congratulations, Mark.

A special thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, especially Christensen Farms, Krotters Home Center, and the Holt County Visitors Committee, without you, we would not be able to put on this great event year after year.
