At approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 27, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported an overdue aircraft that was routed to the Kearney Regional Airport and had lost contact with the plane. The aircraft’s last known location was reported in an area several miles north of the Kearney Regional Airport.
At approximately 10:07 am on Thursday, August 28, 2025, first responders with the assistance of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and Kearney Police Department drones, located the crash site of the overdue aircraft northeast of Kearney.
The two occupants of the aircraft were found deceased at the scene. The two occupants have been identified as Dr. Mark H. Meyer, age 77, and Kent O. Magnuson, age 72, both of rural Kearney, NE. The Buffalo County Attorney’s Office has ordered autopsies to be completed.
Dr. Mark Meyer was an orthopedic surgeon who had formerly practiced at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.
