VALENTINE, Neb. — News Channel Nebraska will showcase the state’s top cowboys and cowgirls on the biggest stage.
NCN is televising the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association (NeHSRA) state finals live from Valentine on Saturday, June 14.
The broadcast will feature the short go in bareback riding, goat tying, steer wrestling, pole bending, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
This marks the first time the event will be televised statewide since 2009.
“We’re excited to team up with NCN to get the rodeo finals on TV,” said Jill Austin, NeHSRA state secretary. “It’s a great way to show more people in Nebraska what our rodeo family is all about and why we love this sport so much.”
More than 160 contestants from across Nebraska are participating in the three-day event.
“These cowboys and cowgirls deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to this tough sport,” said Brandon Aksamit, NCN’s executive director of sports content. “We’re thrilled to bring the high school rodeo state finals to viewers across Nebraska for the first time.”
Scott Poese, of O’Neill, Nebraska, will lead NCN’s coverage as the broadcast announcer. Poese is the general manager of KBRX and has 15 years of experience announcing local rodeos in Nebraska and South Dakota.
