
On Friday, April 25th, O’Neill High School hosted the NSAA District III Music Contest. 12 schools from around the area performed in instrumental and choral ensembles and solos throughout the day. In all, over 150 performances were judged.
The O’Neill High School Band had an outstanding day once again. The Concert Band and Stage Band both received State Medalist honors. In addition, Logan Bradshaw’s French Horn Solo earned a “Most Outstanding” Award and Caleb Laursen’s Snare Drum Solo earned “Honorable Mention” accolades. Other Superior ratings included: Flute Solo (Kaitlyn Hinrichs), Clarinet Solo (Hailey Romesser), Clarinet Solo (Celia Mott), Clarinet Choir (Hailey, Celia, Kaitlyn, Emily Krause, Anna Otte, Emma French & Riley Roessler), Trumpet Solo (Alex Otte), French Horn Duet (Logan, Isaac Sunum), Trombone Duet (Reese Grosch, Wade Krysl), Tuba Solo (Bodie Latzel) and Piano Solo (Hailey). Excellent Ratings were: Flute Duet (Kaitlyn, Charly Svoboda), and Brass Choir.
“It was a fun day of making music by these kids. They represented our school and community well! Only two State Medalist honors were given, and our bands got both of them. And of the 4 solo/small ensemble awards given out, O’Neill received 2 of them as well. I’m so happy to be their director!” Commented OHS Band Director Chad Dean.
