On Saturday, April 27th at the Neligh-Oakdale Elementary Honor Bands Festival the 6th Grade Honor band will perform the world premiere of The Metschke March. The Metshcke March was composed by Nolan Schmit, former Orchard Music teacher and current “Voice Of The Cornhusker Marching Band”. Special guest conductor for this music piece will be Duane DeVries. Duane is the retired band director from Chambers and Nate Metschke’s former band director.

The Metschke March is written in honor of the life of Nate Metschke, who was aChambers native and past music teach at Neligh-Oakdale. Nate passed away in 2018 after his second bout with cancer.

The Metschke March was commissioned by a consortium of 40 band directors.

“The support and love of Nate Metschke in the music education field is overwhelming. When I reached out to directors, they were all eager to help any way they could to help make this song happen. Nolan Schmit knew Nate, and he was the perfect composer to bring this march to life. I am eager to hear the 6th grade honor band play the world premiere performance of The Metschke March on April 27th. It will be an emotional moment and a great way to pay tribute to our dear friend Nate Metschke.” Commented consortium organized Chad Dean.
