O’Neill – West Holt Sophomore, Allie Oligmueller, and Summerland Junior, Austin Mendoza, have been named KBRX’s Stadium Sports Top Dog Athletes of the Week!
West Holt Wrestler, Allie Oligmueller, finished 3-0 at the Dale Bonge Invitational in Albion, going through a gauntlet to bring home 1st place in the 115-weight division! As a 3 seed, Allie started the tournament with a bye before earning her first victory by fall. She then defeated the 2 seed to move onto the championship match against 1 seed, Laynn Luna of Boone Central. It was tied at 0-0 apiece going into the 2nd round, Luna took a 5-3 lead, and during the waning moments of the round Allie scored 4 points with a nearfall! Luna added an extra point in the final round with an escape, but Allie was able to hold on and secure 1st place with a 7-6 victory by decision!
Summerland Wrestler, Austin Mendoza, finished 3-0 from the Central Valley Invitational on January 30th, finishing in 1st place in 138-weight division! Both of his first victories were by technical fall, sending him to the 1st place match where he faced Christopher Allen of riverside. It was 0-0 going into the final round, Allen scored a point on an escape with 1:01 remaining, putting Mendoza in a difficult position. However, Austin didn’t give up and secured a takedown with just 14 seconds remaining, coming away with a 3-1 victory by decision! Not only did Austin secure 1st place from the Central Valley Invitational, he also picked up his 100th career victory at the Invite!
