O’Neill – After an incredible Senior season, St. Mary’s Quarterback and Linebacker – Gage Hedstrom has been named the Nebraska Class D2 Football Player of the Year! Gage helped lead the St. Mary’s Cardinals to the Nebraska D2 State Football Championship, finishing his Senior year 12-1! He completed 145 of 219 passes (66%) for 2311 yards, 46 passing touchdowns to just 4 interceptions! If that wasn’t good enough, Gage finished with 197 carries for 1855 yards and 38 rushing touchdowns! He led the defense with 125 tackles, finished the year with 7 tackles for a loss, 6 interceptions, 12 pass deflections, 2 fumbles caused, and 1 fumble recovery! He finished the season with 211 kickoff return yards & 235 punt return yards! Gage finished with 2387 all-purpose yards and, adding his 2311 yards passing, a total of 4698 yards altogether – 361.4 yards per game!
