NORFOLK – The Norfolk Classic Track & Field Meet was held this past Thursday, May 1st.  Five N-V girl athletes qualified for the all-star meet in seven different events.

Amber Sucha competed in the high jump finishing in 9th place with a jump of 4-10.  Allison Sucha competed in long jump 8th place (15’10.5”) and 100M hurdles 8th place (16.39).

There were three Cougar medalists…

Shot put:  Taylor Pavlik 6th place (36’4.25”)

3200M:  Delani Runnels 2nd place (12:20.15)

After all the dust had settled, Delani Runnels earned her second straight outstanding female athlete of the Classic award, successfully defending her title from last year!  On the boys side… the outstanding male athlete of the Classic was awarded to Barrett Wilke of Stanton.  En route to earning this award, Wilke threw the discus an amazing 189’3” and the shot put 62’7.5”.  Both throws set the Norfolk Classic record for their respective events!

Niobrara-Verdigre track & field has a very short turnaround before competing again.  They are back in action this Saturday, May 3rd for the Niobrara Valley Conference track meet at Rock County High School in Bassett.
