O’Neill – Elkhorn Valley Junior Cameron Rutjens, EPPJ Senior Karson Kallhoff, & St. Mary’s Senior Gage Hedstrom have been named KBRX’s Stadium Sports Top Dog Athletes of the Week!

Cameron Rutjens of Elkhorn Valley helped lead her team to the Class C2 State Basketball Tournament, and played incredibly throughout! Rutjens led the team in points all three games, scoring 12, 13, and 16 points! She shot the ball well throughout the tourney, from deep and inside the arch, along with shooting well at the free throw line! Cameron was a huge reason the Lady Falcons made it to the C2 State Championship, and led the team to a State Runner-Up final!

Karson Kallhoff of EPPJ was one of several key players on EPPJ’s lineup that was responsible for their success throughout the year and down in Lincoln! His play helped the Wolfpack finish as Class D2 Boys State Runner-Up! He started the tourney scoring 8 against Pleasanton on 3/5 shooting, 2/4 from 3. After being face guarded throughout the first round matchup Karson got the space he wanted in the Semifinal against GACC, scoring 14 points on 5/7 shooting, and going 4/6 from deep! He added 4 assists, 2 steals and a rebound! And while he struggled scoring in the D2 Championship, he helped the team in other ways by pulling down 2 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists, and producing 3 steals! Congrats to Karson Kallhoff for being a key contributor for the Wolfpack this season and finishing as D2 STate Runner-Ups!

Gage Hedstrom of St. Mary’s led the Cardinals throughout the Class D2 State Basketball Tourney as he has his entire high school career, helping the Cardinals to a 3rd place finish! In a first round rematch against Wynot, Gage was hot out the gates scoring a team high 19 points on 6/10 shooting, 4/6 from 3, and 3/4 from the charity stripe. He had 9 boards, 2 assists, and 1 steal. In the semifinals, another rematch against Archangels Catholic, Gage didn’t slow down at all! he scored a team high 17 points on 5/12 shooting, 2/6 from deep, and 5/6 from the free throw line. He pulled down 7 rebounds, and had 2 steals. In the 3rd place match against GACC, Hedstrom and company didn’t let the semifinal loss dictate how they would finish the season! Gage would cap off his high school basketball career with 21 points on 7/11 shooting, 2/4 from beyond the arch, 5/7 from the free throw line, and added 6 rebounds. Congratulations to Gage Hedstrom for being an amazing team leader and helping St. Mary’s finish the season in 3rd place!
