O’Neill Softball Team Win NEN Viper Tournament!

Wisner – The O’Neill Lady Eagle Softball team competed in the NEN Viper Softball Tournament on Saturday, August 30th at Wisner River Park and came away as the Tournament Champions! O’Neill dominated in all three matches, run-ruling their opponents each game.

The event started with a 15-1 victory over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, a game that O’Neill’s offense came to play! The Lady Eagles scored in every inning: 2 runs in the top of the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings, 3 run sin the top of the 3rd, and 6 runs in the top of the 5th, finishing with 12 hits and 1 error.

O’Neill continued their dominant play into their second game against the Boone Central Lady Cardinals, shutting them out with a 9-0 victory in the semifinals! The Lady Eagles scored 3 in the top of the 2nd inning, 4 in the top of the 3rd, and 2 in the top of the 5th inning, holding Boone Central scoreless. O’Neill scored their 9 runs on 10 hits and committed no errors.

O’Neill then put a bow on the tournament with a 12-1 tournament championship win over Blue River! O’Neill scored 3 in the top of the 1st inning and didn’t look back, scoring 1 in the top of the 2nd, then 4 apiece in the top of the 3rd and 4th innings, eventually winning 12-1 in 4 innings!

The Lady Eagles were led by Riley Selby on the mound! She pitched 19 innings, allowing only 2 earned runs, finishing with a .737 ERA, 30 strikeouts against only 8 walks. It was a dominant effort from Selby and the entire team. The O’Neill eagles win the tournament and advanced to a 6-4 record!
