WAHOO – The 23rd annual Wahoo Area Kiwanis All-Star Baseball game was held this past Saturday, August 9th at historic Sam Crawford field in Wahoo, NE. American Legion baseball seniors in Classes B & C who have exhausted playing eligibility from around the state were nominated and selected to play in the 7-inning all-star game. Four players from the Elkhorn Valley baseball league were selected to the North squad: Wyatt Shabram & Connor Thomson of Tri-County, Eleazar Gonzalez of O’Neill, and Grant Bruggeman of Stanton. This year’s game was a thriller with the North team taking home the victory, 11-10! The South was first to score, putting up 3 runs in the first inning. The North team started off slow through the first two innings, but erupted in the 3rd with 7 runs sparked by a bases loaded infield single by Connor Thomson. Thomson & Grant Bruggeman were part of the scoring spree. The South kept the score close and took the lead back late in the game. In the top of the 7th inning, the North fought back and tied the game at 10 apiece. Then Wyatt Shabram, after having pitched the 6th inning, drew a walk, stole 2nd base & 3rd base, and eventually scored the winning run! Eleazar Gonzalez would enter to pitch the bottom of the 7th inning, holding the South scoreless to save the game and secure the win 11-10, earning himself game MVP honors! It was a great night for a great baseball game! Congratulations to the North team for securing the victory!
