
O’NEILL – The Irish Juniors defeated Sutton Legion Post 61 Juniors 8-2 on Saturday thanks in part to five runs in the third inning.
Daniel Kluver singled, scoring one run, Justice Blecher drew a walk, scoring one run, Carter Metschke drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Max Berg drew a walk, scoring one run.
A double by Banta put Sutton Legion Post 61 Juniors on the board in the top of the first.
Drake Berg grounded out, which helped the Irish tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. An error gave the Irish the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second.
Xzavier Parks earned the win for the Irish as the starting pitcher gave up six hits and two runs (one earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Ostrander took the loss for Sutton. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking six. Nate Brown collected the save.
Brown, Parks, Blecher, Berg, Berg, Kluver, and Maguire Heiss each collected one hit for the Pinnacle Bank Irish Juniors. Berg, Berg, Kluver, Metschke, and Heiss each drove in one run and the Irish Juniors had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Berg and Metschke led the team with two walks each. Parks stole two bases, and the Irish turned one double play in the game.
Banta went 3-for-3 at the plate and led Sutton with one run batted in.
