Lady Junior High Eagles Compete at State Meet

O’NEILL – Four Junior High Lady Eagles competed the at Nebraska JH State Meet in Gothenburg on Saturday, May 17th. Qualifiers included Blakely Sudbeck in High Jump, Kiarra Kennedy in the 800M run, Brianna Kallhoff in the Shot Put and Jozy York in the Discus. You must be in Top 24 in the state within that event in order to qualify for this competitive meet.

Out of these competitors two Lady Eagles found their way to the medal stand, Brianna Kallhoff and Blakely Sudbeck. Kallhoff was the 8th place medalist in Shot Put with a personal best throw of 31-02.5”. Blakely Sudbeck found herself on the medal stand in the 7th place spot in High Jump. She cleared 5’0” which was the same jump as 2nd-6th place which resulted in a tie breaking decision based upon makes and misses. Sudbeck ended the day in 7th place. The winning jump of the meet was 5’2”.

Other impressive performances included Kiarra Kennedy earning 11th place in the 800M run with a time of 2:27.98. This run broke Kennedy’s own record for 800M run overall in the Junior High Girls Record Books at O’Neill High School. Her previous time was 2:31.29. Jozy York also had an impressive day with a Discus throw of 81-07”. She earned 19th place.

Congratulations to all these young ladies! There is a lot of be proud of and work towards in the future.
