Eagles Shine at Norfolk Catholic Invitational to Close Out Regular Season

NORFOLK, NE — The Eagles closed out their regular season with a strong performance at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational, bringing home a runner-up finish for the boys and a third-place team finish for the girls.

On the track, Maddie Heiss sprinted to a 2nd place finish in the girls 100-meter dash, while Porter Mathews captured 3rd in the boys 200-meter finals. The boys 400-meter dash was a standout event, with Trevor Alder earning 2nd, Colten Shoemaker 3rd, and Brock Latzel 5th. On the girls’ side, Mia Lindsay placed 6th in the same event.

Reagan Kaufman secured a 3rd place finish in the girls 800-meter race, and Tomas Arciniega took 4th in the boys 3200-meter run. The Eagles dominated the 110-meter high hurdles with Pryor Mathews finishing 1st, Ian Yates 3rd, and Drake Brandt 4th. Mathews added another strong performance in the 300-meter hurdles, placing 2nd.

In the relays, the girls 4×100-meter team—Serena Chavez, Maddie Heiss, Hailey Fick, and Tenzlie Sorensen—placed 3rd. The girls 4×400-meter relay squad (Ashley Sidak, Hannah Hilker, Mia Lindsay, and Mollie Corkle) raced to a 2nd place finish, while the boys team (Shoemaker, Latzel, Fonseca, and Alder) brought home a victory. Both teams also secured runner-up finishes in the 4×800-meter relay.

Field events added valuable points as well. In the girls shot put, Mariah Kallhoff claimed 1st, and Taylor Young placed 4th. In discus, Young was 4th and Kallhoff 5th. Colten Shoemaker soared to 2nd in the boys high jump, with Calli Tomjack taking 3rd in the girls division. In the pole vault, Brooklynn Cahoy took the win for the girls, and Grady Welke secured 2nd for the boys.

In jumps, Porter Mathews placed 3rd in the girls long jump, and Maddie Heiss placed 5th in the girls high jump. Serena Chavez took 4th in girls triple jump, while Ian Yates placed 6th for the boys.

The Eagles now turn their focus to the B-3 District Meet, hosted by Blair, on Tuesday, May 13. The day begins with unified field events at 10:00 a.m., followed by general field events at 11:00 a.m., and running events starting at 2:00 p.m.
