Cancellations & Postponements


    • “Antelope County Emergency Management Team” lifted the travel ban on some Antelope County roads at 6:00 AM on Thursday, March 21, 2019. Please refer to the ‘Open Road’ map (also available on Antelope County Website: Travel is suggested at 35 MPH on these roads.There are barricades in place on many other Antelope County Roads. Please be diligent while driving these roads.
    • The York Road northwest of Ewing going past the catholic cemetery to 510th AVE is closed
    • The road 6 miles north of Orchard (513 Ave) in Antelope County is closed until further notice. A bridge approach has partially washed away and is too dangerous for any traffic to cross. It is suggested you use the Ashfall road to get into or going north out of Orchard, as most other side roads are impassable.
    • From the Holt County and Boyd County Road Departments, The Redbird Bridge is now open to car, pick-up and SUV Traffic only. At this time no semi trucks are to use the bridge until further notice.
    • Please no truck traffic on Chambers Township roads.  They are still trying to get roads fixed so people can get out.
    • The Knox County Department of Roads announced March 20th that the Pischelville Bridge is now open. The Pischelville Bridge has been inspected and is sound. They are still working on the road and it is advised unless you live in the area not to travel the bridge until after 5 p.m. There is lots of construction traffic and dump trucks moving dirt and rock 881 Road is still closed to through traffic. They would appreciate minimum traffic coming through and impeding the trucks and construction effort.
    • From the Village of Inman – They are asking you to please don’t drive in the village of Inman unless absolutely necessary.  Driving on the streets just tears them up further.  They are working with all available agencies to fix the problem.
    • This message from the Boyd County Sheriff. Anyone crossing the barricade at Spencer Dam will get ticketed.
    • The road 6 miles east of the Stone Windmill is closed for repairs at 887th Road and 498th Avenue.


  • Just wanted to let everyone know that the Verdigre Stockyard started a hay drive at the sale barn on Saturday and hay is currently being delivered to the sale barn for our ranchers in need.  Many ranchers lost their hay in the flooding or they can’t reach their hay, so we have been delivering hay all weekend to ranchers in need.  If ranchers need hay, please contact the sale barn at 402- 668-2246 or Curt at 402-841-2835.  THEY ARE IN NEED OF MORE HAY!!!  Our ranchers are also in need of vet supplies and fencing supplies.  Items can be donated and dropped off at the sale barn anytime.  Please call the sale barn in Verdigre if you wish to donate items or have any questions.
  • Chambers Corner south of O’Neill is opening up their camper spots with full electrical and water for anybody in need free of charge.
  • The Atkinson RV Park does have spaces in Atkinson space available at no cost to anyone dealing with the flood.  Call for more information 402-340-4417.
  • The village of Butte has new locations for tank filling has been moved from the baseball fields to the fire hydrant across from the Butte Fire Hall.
  • There are portable shower facilities and also portable laundry trailers in Bristow.  Please bring your own personal care items.
  • TETANUS SHOT CLINICS – The North Central District Health Department will give Tetanus Shots at the following locations.
    O’Neill – Friday March 22 – 8 am – 4:30 pm at the NCDHD Office in downtown O’Neill.
    Verdigre – Friday, March 22 9:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Verdigre City Office
    Niobrara – Friday, March 22 2 pm – 6 pm at the Niobrara School
    Lynch- Monday, March 25th at Niobrara Valley Hospital from 2:00 -4:00 pm.
    Spencer- Monday, March 25th at the Spencer Fire Hall from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.
    Oakdale- Monday, March 25th at the Oakdale Village Hall from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.
    NCDHD will continue to have tetanus vaccine available at their office in downtown O’Neill. The office is open from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
    There is a charge for this so please bring your insurance information with you if you have insurance.

Attention:  HWY 14 will be open into Niobrara NE on  Saturday March 23, 2019 from 12 noon to 12 Midnight.  The HWY 14/ 12 road into Niobrara will open again 8AM on Sunday March 24, 2019 and remain open until midnight on Sunday.  No trucks allowed.   Come and see our icebergs and flood damage.  The community is working hard with cleanup efforts.  We have businesses open on the hill.  Moody’s, Greg’s, The Trading Post, Sportsman’s Bar, Farnik’s, Billy May’s, Precious Things, the Museum, Hilltop Lodge, Terry’s.  We Welcome you!   HWY 12/14 is open from Niobrara across Standing Bear Bridge into South Dakota.

  • Friday, March 22, 9-1 or 9:30-1:30, tetanus shots by Nebraska Dept of Health at Village Office.  “Bring your insurance card as shots will be run through insurance, but noone will be billed for amount not paid by insurance. If you have no insurance you will not be charged,” Tetanus shots also available at Avera Verdigre (during regular hours) and Avera Niobrara (Friday, 2:00-6:00 p.m.)

  • Saturday, March 23, Farm Bureau Burger Feed starting at noon at Fire Hall.  All welcome.
  • Tree dump is open, but grounds are still soft.  Don’t get stuck.  Same goes for alleys and everywhere around here. Watch where you’re going.
  • Verdigre prom rescheduled to Friday, April 26.

  • Library reopened today!  Not all computers are working.  All carpets were shampooed!
  • Here is a partial list of items needed:  firewood for 2 families, propane for the ZCBJ Hall, Library and Legion Hall, dehumidifiers, fans, lawn mowers, storage shelves (LOTS) for businesses-garages-basements.  At football field, the school lost a minivan, industrial lawn mower, two pop coolers, two freezers, popcorn machine, set of speakers, roasters and more.
  • Most homes have heat again.  If we missed a home or business in need, say so.
  • Hang in there.
