It’s my favorite month of the year, October! Finally, we’re done dealing with the unbearable heat, but it’s not freezing cold quite yet. There are so many things going on in the KBRX area, and here’s my top 5 run-down.

  1. It’s not October without an Oktoberfest! Better yet, Rocktoberfest! Head down to Bassett on Saturday, October 12th for the event from 12:00 to 6:00. Included in the festivities are a 5K, FFA haunted hotel, vendor fair, and pumpkin decorating contest! Presale wristbands will be $20 and $25 at the event.

  1. I am one of the most unartistic people you’ll meet. My stick people look like… ahh I better not say. Atkinson Floral is hosting an Autumn Falling painting class on Friday, October 19th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Lucky for people like me, the ever-so-talented Ranell Otte is teaching the class. The facebook event invites you to “Come to spend a night creating a magical fall canvas piece with a unique flair.” Registration space is limited, so call Atkinson Floral at 402-925-2689 to reserve your spot today!

  1. The O’Neill Satellite Rotary is hosting their Chills & Thrills event again this year! The haunted trail will be open at dusk on the following dates: Saturday, October 19th; Friday, October 25th; and Saturday, October 26th. The theme will be Beetlejuice and costs $5 for entry. In addition, the Holt County Animal Shelter will be a kids’ carnival and free-will donation meal on Saturday, October 26th beginning at 5:00 PM.

  1. My childhood is coming alive! Join Super Grover 2.0 in celebrating Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary with a Hometown Celebration. Stop by O’Neill Elementary for the event on Tuesday, October 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. You can enjoy a free BBQ dinner and participate in educational games that can be done at home too!

  1. Lambert Pumpkin Patch will be open this Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th from 12:00 to 6:00. Lambert Farms is located 2 miles south and 1.5 miles east of the Highway 281/95 junction. In addition to riding the Molly Trolly, you can get your pick of watermelon, squash, and of course, pumpkins! Announced yesterday, you can also get Lambert’s Famous Kettle Korn! This classic fall event is great for the whole family!

These are just a sample of the events going on this month. I know I didn’t feature any Halloween events, but I decided to save that for its own Top 5, so keep an eye out for it. Here’s to hoping it stops raining soon, and you have a great October!
