St. Mary's Wins NVC West One Acts




St. Mary's One Act Team
 
The 62-member cast and crew from St. Mary's competed in the NVC west division meet one-act competition on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Chambers.
 
St. Mary's won the meet, earning two 1's and one 2nd from the three-judge panel.
 
St. Mary's play, "Boy, Blue" was written by SMH director LuAnn Schindler. The play examines the 1985 death of 9-year-old Danny Stutzman, whose body was discovered in a field near Chester, Nebraska in Thayer County. Through flashback scenes, including actual courtroom testimony, the drama follows the timeline of events that led to the discovery on Christmas Eve in 1985.
 
Three St. Mary's students received acting honors. Kyle Regan, portraying Eli Ali Stutzman, Josh Cuddy, playing the role of Danny Stutzman, and Wil Hupp, portraying State Patrol Investigator Jack Wyant were recognized.
 
St. Mary's will present a public performance of the play on Sunday, Dec. 1, along with O'Neill Public, at 5 p.m. in the O'Neill High School gym.

The next day, St. Mary's travels to Wausa for district competition.
