Stadium Sports Top Dog Athlete Of The Week


Top Dawg Athlete of the Week is a weekly honor given out by the
KBRX Sports Department during the Dawg Pound Sports Show
every Wednesday night. Student/athletes are considered based
on accomplishments from games the previous week before the
Show (Mon-Sat). Any high school athlete from our KBRX
coverage area is eligible. Once chosen, an athlete will not be
eligible for two months, or until the conclusion of the current
sports season. Since we cannot cover all sporting events,
listeners and fans are encouraged to submit their nominations to
us. If you have a nomination, please fill in the form at the bottom
of the page, send it to us via e-mail to,, fax it to us at 336-3585, or simply tell a member
of the Sports Department. Please include a reason why this
athlete is deserving of the honor of Top Dawg, and include any
stats or other significant achievements that may apply.

2014 - 2015 Top Dawgs

Jayle Hinkle - won the shot put in Class D and placed 5th in the discus to wrap up a season where he dominated Class D from wire to wire CWC Track & Field Spring O/C Track & Field Kylie Thiele - placed 6th at State Track in the 800, helped the 3200 Relay to a school record despite O/C bumping up to Class C this year
Walker Liewer - increased his discus throw by 10 feet to win the B-4 District and medal 7th at State Track O'Neill Track & Field Spring Ewing Track & Field Lydia Fry - qualified for State Track in 3 events and medaled in the 300 Hurdles, running her best at the end of the season
Alex Fritz - won three straight golf tournaments, including the NVC individual and team championships while shooting in the 70s West Holt Golf Spring Stuart Track & Field Harlee Fischer - won four gold medals at NVC among many regular season accomplishments, won three medals at State Track
Bo Jensen - won 8 gold medals in 6 different events during the Stanton and Sandhills Invite West Holt Track & Field Spring O'Neill Track & Field McKenzie Adamson - placed 5th in the Triple Jump with a 33'4" mark at the prestigious Dan Lennon Invite at USD
Trevor Mlnarik - wrapped up his career by leading the Cyclones to the NVC title, the D1-4 District title and an appearance at the D1 State Tourney O/C Basketball Post-
St. Mary's Basketball Bridget Schneider - finished a record-setting career by leading the Cardinals to a District and State Championship
Garret Zimmerer - won the Class D 120 lb weight class in Omaha before picking up his 100th win and helping the Bulldogs to 4th at the State Duals Creighton Wrestling Post-
Stuart Basketball Hailey Paxton - played good, consistent ball from the post position to help lead the Broncos to the State Tournament and place 3rd in Class D2
Caleb Ross - stepped up to wrestle 3 great weeks, helping O'Neill to a District and State Championship and 2nd at Duals O'Neill Wrestling Post-
Emily Knust - averaged a double-double with 29 points and 21 rebounds as well as tallying a handful of other stats in subdistrict play
Viktor Jonseth - beat the #2 and #6 ranked wrestlers in Class D (170 lbs) as part of a 1st place run at the Cyclone Invite, going 4-0 on the day West Holt
2/11/15 St. Mary's Basketball Addie Wetzel - provided strong post play to help the Cardinals win the NVC Tourney for the 2nd year in a row, scored 41 pts and 25 reb in 2 games
David Fox - won the 170 pound title at the Boone Central Invite with a 5-2 win over the #2 ranked Class B 170 wrestler O'Neill Wrestling 2/4/15 West Holt Basketball Megan Bilstein - came off the bench to hit 5 three-pointers, scoring 19 of the Huskies' 44 points in a close win over OHS
Brant Shoemaker - his 53 points were just over 1/4 of the Cardinals' scoring total during a 2-1 week, adding 16 boards and dishing out 6 assists St. Mary's Basketball 1/28/15 Neligh-
Hallie Knutson - as a senior, she led the improving Warriors to 2 of their 3 wins, scoring 42 points and tallying 35 rebounds in four total games
Jeff Judge - hit 8 of 9 free throws as part of his 22 points in a victory over North Central, also added 5 rebounds and 3 steals West Holt Basketball 1/21/15 St. Mary's Basketball Riley Sibbel - scored 21 points to help the Cards beat ranked CWC, scored 14 against Ewing, in addition to solid defense
Blake Walters - went 4-0 to win his weight class and help the Eagles place 2nd as a team at the difficult Mid-Dakota Monster O'Neill Wrestling 1/14/15 Ewing Basketball Katie Koenig - in 2 games she tabbed 31 points, 28 rebounds and 10 steals among other stats to help the Tigers to the Wausa Post-Holiday Tourney title
Jagger Smith - helped O/C win their own Holiday Tourney with 34 pts, but made the biggest impact on defense with 11 steals in 2 games Clearwater/

Marissa Koenig - ruled the paint at the Cyclone Holiday Tourney, putting up 41 pts, 16 reb and 3 steals to lead the Renegades to the title

Emily Sorensen - took over the game with teammates in foul trouble, scoring a game high 15 points to go with 6 reb, 2 ast & 2 stl, giving EPPJ their first loss of the season
Cory Rowse - went 4-0, beating two state-ranked opponents to help O'Neill win the OHS Invite and the Capital City Clash O'Neill Wrestling 12/17/14 Chambers/
Dawn Klabenes - averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game to help CWC go 4-0 to start the season
11/19/14 St. Mary's Volleyball Mackenzie Wecker - recorded 58 digs and three ace serves at State Volleyball; her passing set up a ruthless Cardinal attack that produced 125 kills
Casey Garcia - helped Neligh-Oakdale almost pull the upset of #1 Creighton with 21 tackles and a fumble recovery Neligh-Oakdale Football 11/12/14 Creighton Volleyball Rebecca Eggerling - in two subdistrict games, she pounded 55 kills and 11 blocks at the net, and produced 23 digs, 47 serve receptions and 7 ace serves
Alex Kunz - ran for 108 yds and 2 TDs, completed 6/8 passes for 99 yds and 2 TDs, tallied 12 tackles and averaged 43 yds per punt in a playoff win Stuart Football 11/5/14 St. Mary's Volleyball Bridget Schneider - helped lead the Cardinals to the NVC Championship by assisting 105 of the team's 120 kills in three games

10/29/14 EPPJ Volleyball Jenna Parks - tallied a triple-double in a four set win against a good Burwell team - 12 kills, 12 assists, 11 digs & 5 blocks
Zach Novak - ran for 264 yds and 7 TDs on only 12 carries; led the defense with 11 tackles in just over one half of play; the win helped solidify  the Cardinals' playoff spot St. Mary's Football 10/22/14 CWC
Kristin Mahony - qualified for State XC by placing 11th in a tough district with a time of 23:11; has improved to become the leading Renegade runner in her senior year
Brenden Pelster - ran 18 times for 151 yds and 4 TDs, completed 4/9 passes for 65 yds and 2 TDs; added 8 tackles and an INT on defense CWC
10/15/14 Neligh-Oakdale Cross Country Kasi Grosserode - won the NVC meet with a time of 21:27, setting a school record and becoming the Warriors 1st ever girls conference champion
