There will be a Hunter's Safety Course offered in Orchard Wednesday, October 7th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 10th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the community room in the Orchard Fire Hall.  Participants need to register online before October 7th at or  You must print off permission slip from the computer during the registration process to be able to take the class.  The dates printed in the Orchard paper are incorrect, these are the correct times and dates.  If you have any questions you can contact Dennis at 402-893-5461 in the evenings or Duane 402-893-2085 daytime and 402-893-4355 evenings.


The Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 9th at the North Central District Health Department on Douglas Street in O'Neill.  NCDHD will also have flu shots available during the chamber coffee.

The Orchard Historical Society Evening Supper will be held Friday, October 9th from 5 to 7 p.m. They will be serving Lasanga, Tossed Salad, Homemade Breadsticks and dessert. The normal cost of the meal is $7 but The Modern Woodsman is paying $2.50 per meal making your cost only $4.50.

Rummage Sale 9th & 10TH

Large Rummage Sale St. Mary's Hall in Spencer Friday 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 to 5 $1 per bag after Saturday Mass October 9th and 10th.


The Horse Biscuit Bingo planned to start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th during Wild Turkey Days has been cancelled.

There will be a Rumbles Dance during Wild Turkey Days in Spencer on Saturday, October 10th from 9 to 1 a.m. at the Spencer Community Hall.  Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the gate. Proceeds go to the Community Improvement Projects in Spencer and you can get advance tickets at KBRX in O'Neill.

The Ewing Full Gospel Church will be hosting a Meet and Greet open house for Pastor Mark Hoffman and his wife April and family on Saturday, October 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ewing Community Hall. We will be serving a Sloppy Joe meal. Please come and help welcome Pastor Mark and his family to the area and enjoy a meal with us. 

There will be a Mountain Oyster Feed at the Stuart American Legion on Saturday, October 10th from 5:30 to ?  Sponsored by the Stuart American Legion

Elgin United Methodist Church Annual Turkey and Ham Fall Dinner will be held Sunday, October 11th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Adults $10; children 6-10 $3 and under 5 free.  Homemade pies included!

There will be a Retirement Party on Sunday, October 11th for Pete Stamp who will be retiring from the Village of Inman.  The party will start at 11 a.m. and go until whenever at the Inman Community Hall.  Everyone is welcome to attend and please consider this your invitation.

Peter Fletcher, Classical Guitarist will be performing at the Neligh Public Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11th. This event is free and open to the public. 

The Sybrant Community Church south of Bassett will host a Fall Fun Day on Sunday, October 11th.  Worship service is at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow at 12 noon.  Meat will be provided. Bring side dishes to share.  Hayrack rides,kid's games and blue rocks to shoot will be part of the fun.  Everyone is welcome to attend. 

On Sunday, October 11th the Plainview Arts Council presents Kusi Taki.  Admission is $6 for adults, students are $3 and Arts Council Members are free with season pass.  This is presented with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment for the Arts. The Orchard United Methodist Church will be having their annual Soup Supper on Sunday, Oct. 11, 5-7:30 P.M., serving chili, chicken noodle, ham & bean soup, homemade bread, and desserts. Free-will donation.

Fish Fry sponsored by the Atkinson Legion Riders Post 86 will be held on Sunday, October 11th with serving from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Atkinson American Legion.  Free will donation with proceeds going to the ball programs


The O’Neill Public School Board of Education will hold it’s regular meeting at the School Administrative Offices, 410 East Benton, on Monday, October 12th, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The agenda is kept continuously current and may be reviewed at the same location.


There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at St. Peter Fellowship Hall in Orchard on Tuesday, October 13th.  The hours are 10:30 to 4:30 p.m.  To make an appointment, please call Rita Shabram at 402-893-2691.  Eligible donors can also visit to make an appointment or download the Red Cross Blood Donor app on your smartphone. 


Nebraska Hunter's Education Fire Arm Class will be held October 14th, 15th & 16th from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the O'Neill Fire Department (east door). You must be at least 12 years old by January 1st to take the class. Register online at or www.huntsafenebraska before October 14th. The Stuart American Legion Auxiliary will have their Gold Star Tea at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 14th at the Stuart American Legion Hall.

O'Neill UMC (north of the Golden Living Center) will be having their Church Bazaar on Wednesday, October 14th starting at 11 a.m. at the church.  There will be soup, sandwiches, cake, coffee or tea as well as craft booths, bring your craft items for donations.  The Country Store will have Cakes, Pies, Bread, Rolls, Cinnamon Rolls, Cookies and more.  Come check it out



Come join us for a silent auction & wine tasting in the Nebraska Room at The Blarney Stone. Tickets are $10 with proceeds benefitting The Holt County Animal Shelter. The Silent Auction begins at 4pm til 7pm, with wine tasting starting at 5 til 8pm


Creighton Ministerial Association is looking for people who enjoy Christian music to sin and play specials at the Gospel Sing Benefit in Creighton on Sunday, October 18th. Music will start at 2 p.m. with refreshments following.  The Gospel Sing will be at Faith, Hope & Love Fellowship in Creighton.  Special musical guests include Evagelists Tom and Karen Cobb.  There will be church ensembles and other local talent.  To be placed on the program contact Pastor Casey and Jan Nelson 402-847-3400.  This event is open to the public.  Proceeds of the free will offering will be used for the Creighton Ministerial Fund.


The program "Sharpie: Nebraska's Queen of the Air" will be presented by Diane Bartels, a Humanities Nebraska speaker, at the Atkinson Public Library on Monday, October 19th at 1 p.m.  This presentation is based on Bartel's extensive research and book about Evelyn Sharp, a pioneering, teenage aviatrix who became a war hero. Sharp taught men to fly and was one of the first women to ferry U.S. Army Air Force fighters during World War II freeing men for combat.  This program is open to the public and all ages are welcome!

An amazing celebration of gospel music, Gaither Vocal Band in Concert on Friday, October 23rd at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney. Central Nebraska Community Services in O'Neill will be celebrating 50 years of fighting poverty with an Open House in O'Neill on Tuesday, October 27th from 2-4 p.m. This will be held at the O'Neill office at 202 S. 10th Street. 


Saturday, October 31st is the Annual Trick or Treat at the Creighton Public Library.  They will start trick or treating a little ater 10 a.m. and will walk to local businesses for a trick or treat. Please consider this your invitation
