Page Water Tower


Due to painting and repair of the Page water tower, all residents need to boil all drinking water until further notice.  The Dept of Health suggests bringing water to a rolling boil for one full minute.

Ranchland Art Group


An open art show sponsored by the Ranchland Art Group will be held during O'Neill Summerfest at the O'Neill Library.  The entries will be hung on July 16th and will remain on display until August 1st.  All artists are invited to display their work-you do not need to be a Ranchland Art Group member.  A donation of $2 per art work is suggested to the O'Neill Public Library.

NOW- FRIDAY, AUGUST 15TH


Farmers have until August 15th to apply for the Storm Damage Cover Crop Initiative through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The Storm Damage Cover Crop Initiative will assist producers with planting cover crops to re-establish vegetative cover lost due to extreme weather conditions such as drought, floods, tornado, hail, and high winds. "Super Hero Training Camp" Free VBS style summer fun for ages 2-8 will be held July 21st through July 25th from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Faith Wesleyan Church in Atkinson.  Your children will undergo training on how to be like Jesus as they spend each day learning about heroes of the Bible. FRIDAY, JULY 25TH


Friday, July 25th Orchard will hold a Glow Run, 5K Run/Walk starting at 9:00pm.  The runners/walkers will meet at Hammer Insurance at 8:00pm for glow sticks, t-shirts, and instructions.  Proceeds benefit the OC-Cyclones Booster Club and OC-Girls Basketball Team.  This is sponsored by: Hammer Insurance and Antelope Memorial Hospital.  Fee: $15, if pre-registered before July 18th or $20, if after July 18th.  T-shirts and Glow Sticks are included in price.  For questions or to register contact Hammer Insurance at 402-893-2050 or hammerins@gmail.com

The Atkinson-Ettes will be sponsoring  a drive-thru breakfast and bake sale Friday, July 25 from 7-10 AM at the gazebo in downtown Atkinson. All proceeds will go to the Backpack Program.

 

JULY 26 AND JULY 27


The Northeast Nebraska Archers 3-D Outdoor Tournament will be July 26 and July 27.  Up to 50 shots, scoring 10, 8, 5.  Awards will go to 1st and 2nd in each class, with 5 or more shooters.  Classes:  Mens open, Bowhunter Freestyle, Bowhunter Limited, Barebow and Traditional Stakes, Women (Limited and Unlimited), Youth (12 to 17), and Cub (to age 11).  Concessions are available.  No range finders or broadheads.  Binoculars are allowed.  Range fees for adults are $15.  For additional information contact Reggie Hochstein at 402-640-3233.  Range Location:  3 miles east of Hartington on Highway 84, just 25 minutes from Yankton, SD and 50 minutes from Sioux City, IA.

SATURDAY, JULY 26TH

There will be a Trail Ride Saturday, July 26th at 9 a.m. in Niobrara as part of Desperado Days.  You meet at the arena in Niobrara and there is camping available for the night before if you want.

The Boots and Saddle Club Horse Show will be held Saturday, July 26th with registration at 3:30 p.m. and the show starting at 4 p.m.  You are only allowed to enter 5 events.  The Holt County Rodeo Club will have the concession stand with grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, bars and drinks.

Stuart Boosters will hold their 4th annual Antique Tractor Pull featuring the Borderline Pulling Association on July 26, 2014 at the Stuart Park. Weigh in starting at 3:30 with the Antique Tractor Pull at 5:30. Call Cory Mitchell at 402-340-2867 with questions.

WILDERNESS ESCAPE VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL


The O'Neill United Methodist Church invites kids to Wilderness Escape Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 27th to Thursday, July 31st.  Kids age preschool to 6th grade are invited to attend.  This will begin with a free will supper for families at 5:45 p.m. and end each night at 8:35 p.m.  There will be a final celebration on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. for families.  For more information contact 402-336-1883 or 402-336-2272

Sunday, July 27th and Sunday, August 3rd at the Fairgrounds in Chambers the 4-H shooting sports kids will be having practice at 2:00pm for 22 archery and trap.

The Antelope/Knox County Thrivent Chapter Picnic will be Sunday, July 27th at 5:00pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh.  There will be 2 presentations on mission trips given by Rochelle Rienke on her trip to China, and by Darrel and Marlene Timm on their Thrivent Builds trip to Costa Rica.  Enjoy a picnic supper of brats and hamburgers.  All Thrivent members in Antelope and Knox Counties are invited.

MONDAY, JULY 28TH


The head commissioner from Lincoln of Nebraska Game and Parks will be at Sunnybrook café, 10 miles South of Ewing by Knievel’s Corner on Monday, July 28th at 12:00 Noon. They are coming to hear the concerns of citizens on the well being of Gooselake Recreational Area. Now is the time to come voice your opinions. Lunch will be available to purchase during the meeting.

The Atkinson Antiquers will meet Monday, July 28th at the Atkinson Senior Center at 6:30pm.  Ellen will be in charge of the lesson and it will be on tatting.

There will be an open forum with the DEQ sponsored by Wheeler County Farm Bureau on Monday, July 28th at 7:30 PM at the Wheeler County Fair Building. Hot dogs will be served, come see what Farm Bureau can do for you. Contact Sara at 402-340-5245.

The Boyd County Fair Board, in cooperation with the Boyd County Ministerial Association, present Kenley Udd and the Udders in concert for the Boyd County Fair Song Fest Wednesday, July 30th at 7 p.m. in St. Mary's Hall in Spencer, Nebraska.  An ice cream social will follow the concert.  A free-will offering will be received for the Ministerial Association.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13TH


Join us August 13th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory for an Open House Celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Cooperative Extension System.  The Haskell Agricultural Laboratory is located at 57905 866 Road, Concord, NE.  Extension was established with the signing of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914.  This celebration will highlight both Extension’s past and the future.  The Open House will begin at the farm shop with displays of past and current research and programs.  A one hour tour of the farm will run every half hour with the last tour leaving at 4:30.  After each tour all will be served a special University of NE-Lincoln Dairy Store Centennial ice cream flavor.  The event is free and open to the public.
 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16TH


The American Legion Post 51 Poker Run will be held August 16th starting at 11:00am. This is in conjunction with Butte Golf Association's Annual Ribfest.  Start will be at the Main Street in Butte, NE.  Happy Hour will be 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Beer Garden, $2 drink specials!  BBQ Ribs start serving at 6:00pm and Dustin Evan Band starts playing at 9:00pm. 

RibFest Grilling Contestants Needed!  We are having 3 Divisions this year:  St. Louis Ribs, Chicken, and 'Anything with Bacon' Division.  Meat will be available by 10:00am Saturday, August 16th.  Contact Bob Hansen at 402-340-2422 for more information or to sign up!

The Atkinson Hay Days Committee meets every 3rd Wednesday from April through September at 7 p.m. at the Sandhills Guesthouse in Atkinson.

The Women of Cancer meets on Monday evenings at O'Neill Avera St. Anthony's Chemotherapy Room from 7 to 8 p.m.  Upcoming meeting dates are February 3rd, April 7th and June 2nd.  This is a women's support group for all cancer types.  Sharing hope and help to other women in our area. In fulfilling its responsibility to optimize the health and healing of every Veteran, VA is currently embracing the opportunity to moving away from a problem-based disease healthcare approach to a patient centered focus.  To accomplish this, VHA created the Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation.  During the month of October, the O'Neill Outreach Clinic will be supporting the Veterans Affairs efforts in Patient Centered Care.  This new office became operational at the end of 2010.  It is charged with making sure VA tranforms from physician-centered care to personalized, proactive, patient centered care based on relationships--relationships built on trust and committed to positive results over the Veteran's lifetime.  Veterans are encouraged to stop by the clinic to learn about the services offered at the O'Neill Outreach Clinic and to share feedback with VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System's leadership about their health care experiences.

The Atkinson/Stuart Food Pantry will be open on the first Monday of every month.It will be open at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 2:00-5:30 p.m. and also at the Stuart Community Church from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Flu activity has been rapidly increasing in Nebraska and the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services has reported two flu related deaths so far & an increase in the number of hospitalizations for people with influenza-like illnesses.  The best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu is to get a flu shot.  It is not too late to get a flu shot if you have not already received one.  Flu shots are recommended for everyone 6 months and older.  Some people are at greater risk of serious complications from the flu, such as young children, older people, people with chronic lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, neurologic conditions, and certain other long term health conditions & pregnant women.  After you receive a flu shot it takes about 2 weeks for your body to build immunity so get your flu shot as soon as possible.  This public service announcement is brought to you by the friendly people at North Central District Health Department and this radio station.
 
The O'Neill Police Department has partnered with North Central District Health Department to bring a resource to the community. The citizens of Holt County and the surrounding areas have a new resource for the disposal of unused, expired and unwanted medications. A MedReturn unit is a permanent receptacle for disposal of medicines. Prescription medications and over-the-counter medicines can be brought to the O'Neill Police Department at 317 South 4th St, Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm for disposal.  The MedReturn unit will not accept needles, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers, medication from businesses or clinics, ointments, lotions, or liquids.  The permanent disposal site makes it easy for people to dispose of their unwanted medications without waiting for a Drug Take Back Day. It is a safe, simple, secure and environmentally friendly way to help law enforcement agencies and communities collect unwanted or expired household medication, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and unused pharmaceuticals. Do not flush medicines down the sink or toilet unless information is provided specifically instructing you to do so. Do not give your medicine to friends. Doctors prescribe medications based on a person's specific symptoms and medical history. A medicine that works for you could be dangerous for someone else. This resource is funded through a grant from Region 4 Behavioral Health Systems.
