| OUR WINNERS FOR SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2010 (From a Fan) I would like to nominate Michael Hedlund for the Top Dog Athlete of the Week. In our game last week vs. Ainsworth, he had a school record 45 yard field goal on the opening possession and went on to throw 3 touchdown passes for a total of 163 yards passing on the night to five different Eagle receivers. He has thrown for 7 touchdowns this season. The Eagles travel to Battle Creek on Friday for a tough test. Thanks for the coverage and considering this nomination. Alex Hedlund gets a nod for this week as she led the O'Neill Eagles in a victory over Creighton. Hedlund racked up 12 kills, 4 aces, 5 digs, and 1 block in the three set sweep over the Bulldogs. OUR WINNERS FOR SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2010 (From Coach Jeff Shabram) In Friday's game C/O's quarterback Calvin Willats was 18/29 passing for 231 yards and 1 TD. Calvin also had 16 carries for 56 yards and 2 punt returns for 25 yards. On defense Calvin had 5 tackles, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery. Punting, he had 2 punts for a 31.5 yard average. Reports also have it that Calvin was seen selling popcorn at halftime. I would like to nominate Kelsey Appleby, a junior at O'Neill High School for her outstanding performance at the Albion Tournament on Saturday the 11th. O'Neill competed against Schuyler, Crofton, and Columbus Lakeview. The team fought a tough battle in all and came out on top in each game to win the tournament. OUR WINNERS FOR SEPTEMBER 8TH, 2010 In the win over Niobrara/Verdigre, running back Wayne Brugemann showed why he had over 1000 yards last season. Brugeman ran up and down the field on the cougars and for that, he gets the nod for this week. Kelsey Owen was absolutely dominant in the St Mary's Triangular this week for CWC. Owen not only had double digit kills in wins over Lynch and St Mary's but she also had 7 total aces to lead the Renegades to wins. OUR WINNERS FOR SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2010 Clearwater/Orchard coach Jeff Shabram gave big praise to senior RB/LB Aaron Schleusener who takes home the Top Dawg Athlete nod. Despite the losing effort to Creighton, Schleusener played an outstanding ballgame. Offensively, he ran for 50 yards and caught a 19 yard pass. More impressive was his defensive efforts. Schleusener recorded a 22 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery for the Cyclones. Kelci Ross is our Athlete of the Week on the girls' side this week. O'Neill Eagles Softball coach Chuck Price sent in the Top Dawg Nomination for Junior Kelci Ross. He had this to say: " I would like to nominate shortstop Kelci Ross for the KBRX top dog of the week. In the Wisner softball tournament last Saturday, Kelci hit .500 (4-8) with a single, 2 doubles and a triple, slugging .1000. On defense, she had 3 put-outs and 9 assists, with only 1 error. Her defense was key in the High Plains game, as she made two stops with runners on base to end innings."
