The St. Mary's speechsters have been finetuning their speaking skills in the last few days.
On Valentine's Day, the team traveled to the Lutheran High Northeast Invite in Norfolk and brought home quite a few medals.
In Varsity competition, Casey Vandersnick earned the silver medal in Poetry, Jean Zakrewski placed third in Persuasive Speaking and Brittany
Soukup finished 6th in Informative Speaking. The novice team had an outstanding tournament. Jack Reiman won the gold medal in Persuasive Speaking, Cheyenne Rosenkrans claimed the Poetry title, Kim Schneider placed second in Serious Prose, Noah Johnson got the silver medal in Informative, Josh Cuddy and Andrew Thompson placed third in duet acting, the OID team of Makayla Pardun, Taylor Colman, Hattie Blumenstock, Kendra Kozisek and Breanna Hedstrom finished third,
and Alex Storjohann placed fifth in Entertainment
On Tuesday, February 19, St. Mary's brought home the runner up team trophy from the Cedar Rapids Invite. Boone Central won the meet. Zach Renshaw ended second in Extemporaneous Speaking, Logan Spencer finished third in Entertainment, Casey Vandersnick placed third in Serious Prose, Jean Zakrewski finished third in Persuasive, Logan Spencer and Molly Atekson placed third in Duet Acting, Wil Hupp placed fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking, Jayde Rosenkrans and Ellery
Butterfield ended sixth in Duet Acting and Jack Reiman, the top novice speaker in Persuasive, broke into the final and finished seventh. Noah Johnson was awarded the top novice award in Entertainment Speaking.
The speech team travels to the Newman Grove Invite next Wednesday,
