The Sts. Peter & Paul CCD students will be hosting a Soup Luncheon on Super Bowl Sunday.  Sunday, February 5th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Hall in Butte.  Serving Homemade Chili, Chicken Noodle and Vegetable Beef soup.  All proceeds will support the CCD education program.  Everyone is welcome.

The West Boyd National Honor Society has 2012 West Boyd Community Birthday/Anniversary calendars for sale.  Cost is $9.  Please contact any NHS member or Mrs. Black, advisor to purchase one.

January 1st through February 28th

Artwork for the Dream Rocket Project is currently on display at the Atkinson Public Library!.  The Dream Rocket project is a large scale collective wrap, launched by the International Fiber collaborative.  Artworks created by up to 8000 individuals from all around the world will be connected side by side to wrap the 365' Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U. S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama - creating a monumental 32,000 square foot work of art!  The rocket will be wrapped in the art panels for a total of 60 days, during May and June of 2014.  The team is placing submitted artworks on display in national and international venues up until that time.  Stop by the Atkinson Public Library to see a variety of artistic techniques used to create 34 of the 2 x 2 foot panels on display through February 28th!

Stuart Community Church is a pick up site for the Atkinson/Stuart Food Pantry the first Monday of every month.  For applications or questions please contact Linda Nekuda at 402-340-3038.  The church is open from 3 to 5 p.m. on the first Monday of the month and is also open the last Friday of the month for signup for the following month from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Wheeler County Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday by appointment for Wheeler County residents.  It is located in Ericson at Sandhills Baptist Fellowship, 307 Central Ave.  Call 308-653-2163 for information or to make an appointment.

Early Registration for AYSO Soccer has started. You can sign up online at eayso.org. There is a $3 early registration incentive.

The Nebraska Leafy Spurge Working Task Force will hold their next quarterly meeting on Thursday, February 2nd at the North Central RC&D office in Bassett.  The meeting will convene at 12:30 p.m. and the following committee reports will be given: Biological Control, Legislative Update, Public Relations and an update from the Advisory Committee.  New business will include 2012 dues and report on the 25th Annual Leafy Spurge tour and conference that will be held August 1st & 2nd.  This meeting is open to the public and everyone interested in noxious and invasive plants is encouraged to attend.

On Tuesday, February 7th the Student Council of Clearwater/Orchard High School will be hosting a "Purple Out for the Cure" basketball game vs. Ewing High School in Orchard.  T-shirts will be available to purchase for $8.  Order forms will be due and the shirts must be paid for by January 18th to the Orchard or Clearwater offices.  All donations will go to the Carson Cancer Center in Norfolk.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 8TH

There will be a Bargain Buyway meeting at the Kountry Korner Cafe on Wednesday, February 8th at 7:30 p.m.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 11TH

The Chambers Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Prime Rib Dinner on Saturday, February 11th at 5:30 p.m. at the Chambers Fire Hall.  Please check out the website at http://chambersfiredepartment.wordpress.com for more information.

There will be a Polka Fest/Dance at the Clearwater Legion on Saturday, February 11th from 7 to 11 p.m.  The Tyndall Accordian Club from Tyndall, South Dakota will provide the music with a meal also being provided.  The cost is $3 per person or $5 per couple.  Come on out and celebrate Valentine's Day with your sweetheart.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 12TH

Faith Community Church in O'Neill will be showing the movie "Courageous" on Sunday, February 12th at 7 p.m. at the church.  There is no admission charge, everyone is welcome and refreshments will be provided.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 18TH

The Outback Band will be playing on Saturday, February 18th at the O'Neill Firefighters Appreciation Dance at the new O'Neill Community Center.  Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and go until midnight so bring your sweetheart out for a night of dancing and fun

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 25TH & SUNDAY FEBRUARY 26TH

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 25TH

The American Red Cross Central Plains Chapter 's 24th Annual Classic Chili Cook Off will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the Fonner Park Exhibition Building in Grand Island from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This all you can eat event is looking for area chefs to offer many varieties of chili and decorated booths.  All chefs must adhere to Health Department procedures which are provided.  For more information please call Donna or Angi at the Red Cross Office at 308-382-3790.  Ticket prices are $6 in advance or $8 at the door for adults, kids ages 4 to 10 are $3 and under 3 are admitted free.  There will also be raffle tickets available.

The St. Mary's Booster Club's 2012 Basketball Tourney for boys and girls grades 5th - 8th will be held on March 23rd, 24th & 25th. OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Omaha Vet Center, an office of the Readjustment Counseling Services division of the Veteran's Administration, will be facilitating two support groups on the first Monday of each month. One group meeting will be for the veterans, who have served in a combat zone themselves, and the second groups will be for spouses and/or significant others of those veterans.  The meetings will take place on the first Monday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m.  There will be no January 2012 meeting.

There are AA Meetings in Atkinson every Tuesday and every Thursday.  Tuesday is the 12 & 12 Study (closed meeting) at 8 PM at the Presbyterian Church on Highway 20.  Every Thursday there is a Big Book Study (closed meeting) at 8 PM at the Good Samaritan Center in Atkinson and an Open Meeting at 8 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Atkinson.

There is a new Women's AA meeting every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the AA center in O'Neill.

The Inman Public Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 3 PM to 5 PM.

Community Peer Tobacco Cessation Support Groups Meetings on Tuesday evenings from 6 PM to7 PM at Avera St Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill, Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh on Wednesdays at 7 PM to 8 PM, Osmond Hospital on Thursday evenings at 7 PM to 8 PM and at Creighton Area Health Services in Creighton every other Tuesday evening from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  No pre-registration or cost to attend.

KBRB-Fibromyalgia Support Group will be having open meetings to the public on the first Thursday of each month at the United Methodist Church in Ainsworth. There will be two meetings. One will be at 1:30 PM and the other at 7 PM.
