THIRD PLACE MATCH

Chambers vs Wallace

The Chambers Lady Coyotes saw their season come to an end Saturday in the D2 State Volleyball third place match at Lincoln Southeast and would suffer their third loss of the year and finish fourth in the D2 field. 

The Wallace Wildcats behind the hard hitting of Jena Aylward with 19 kills and Katie West with 17 kills would win in a five set match. 
For the third state tournament match in a row, Chambers dropped the first set to Wallace 25-21, but then the Coyotes rallied back to win sets two and three 29-27 and 25-15.  Chambers got off to a sluggish start in the fourth set down quickly 6-0 and would not be able to recover losing that set 25-13.  The 5th set also saw Chambers off to a slow start three of Wallace’s first four points would be on Ace serves.  Wallace was able to hang on and win the fifth set 15-10 for the Third place trophy.

Chambers was led by Kelsey Owen with 14 kills and three ace serves, Katy Gottsch had 12 kills, Laura Tomjack 11 and Erin Devries with 8. 

Chambers ends the year with a record of 31-3.

SEMI-FINAL MATCH

Friday, November 13

Chambers vs Clay Center

Behind 27 kills from senior Abigail Sorenson Clay Center would win in four sets today over the Chambers Coyotes.  Just like the first round Chambers would get off to a slow start and fall in the opening set 25-11.  But the Coyotes would remain unshaken and come back to win set two 25-21.  In the third set it appeared that Chambers  might come out with the win as they led by as many as 4, but Clay Center would tie it up at 22 each and then take the win 25-23.  The fourth set belonged to Clay Center 25-19 for the win. 
Chambers was led by Montana  Libolt with 11 kills, Laura Tomjack had 10 and Kelsey Owen 8.  Chambers had 12 service errors in the match that hurt their effort.
Chambers, now 31-2, will drop down in the consolation match for third place.  That match will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday , November 14 at Lincoln Southeast and they will meet the loser of the Greeley-Wolbach vs Wallace match.

FIRST ROUND

Thursday, November 12

Chambers vs Falls City Sacred Heart

The Chambers Lady Coyotes would start the 2009 State Volleyball Tournament in a position that they were not accustomed to.  They would meet Falls City Sacred Heart and would get off to a slow start losing the first set 25-14.  However the Coyotes would then come back with an exciting second set that would include a 6 point run and win 25-22.  The third set would go to Falls City Sacred Heart winning 25-17 with a 7 point run boosting them.  Chambers would do the same thing with a 7 point run in the fourth and come out on top 25-18 to send the match to 5.  After three service errors in the 5th set Chambers would rally and come out on top 15-11 to win the match.
Senior Montana Libolt would lead Chambers with 16 kills, Laura Tomjack knocked down 11 and Kelsey Owen had 8 kills.  Erin Devries played tough at the net and was in on 7 blocks.
Chamber will meet Clay Center in the D2 Semi-Final at 9:30 am Friday morning at Lincoln Southeast.
