Just last week, I had the opportunity to get together with some of my lifelong friends for a “Merry Friendsthanksmas” celebration. I will tell you this is the best thing we could have done. Seven of us Girl Scouts have been together for years and have celebrated all of life’s wins and losses from weddings to babies and deaths. This year, we found the time for all of us to get together and it truly made us realize the meaning of the holidays. It doesn’t matter how big or small the celebration or your age, there’s always room for more love this holiday season. Here are my top 5 reasons to have a holiday get-together with your friends.

5. Cooking is better than it used to be

It’s the craziest thing. Whether your group of friends is from elementary, high school, or beyond, chances are your cooking skills have improved. Take the get-together as a win and a chance to get some new recipes.

4. Card games are so different than they are with the family

Even though these friends are like family, no one gets angry and shoves the board game across the table (most of the time). Plus playing Cards Against Humanity is SO much better when you’re not explaining to grandma what the terrible combination means.

3. Growing group

Every event we attend, there’s someone new! Getting together for the holidays is the perfect time to introduce the new addition to the group.

2. Perfect time to put your holiday goodies together

Way too much laughter may lead to less than perfect sugar cookies, but it’s all part of the fun. Have everyone bring a goodie to prepare and you can create your cookie trays at the same time!

1.It’s like time never went on

The best part of the weekend and these get-togethers is that sometimes, it’s as if we’ve never been apart. Times are just like they used to be. Even if times have changed, it gives even more reason for catching up.

While it may seem like there is never enough time for all the holiday extravaganzas, I can guarantee you’ll never regret getting together with your day-ones to celebrate your friendship and the holidays. Merry Christmas!!
