NORFOLK, Neb. – Student-athletes at Northeast Community College were not only busy on the field this fall, they were just as busy in the classroom.
The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference announced that 60 student-athletes at Northeast were named to the 2018 Fall Academic All-Region list, it was announced on Thursday.
For the Hawks, men’s soccer had 15 members named, with seven being first-team members. The 2018 volleyball team had 11 players named first team honorees.
Men’s soccer: First Team: 7, Second Team: 8; women’s soccer: First Team: 10, Second Team: 3; men’s basketball: First Team: 4, Second Team: 1; women’s Basketball: First Team: 9, Second Team: 1; men’s golf: First Team: 4, Second Team: 2; volleyball: First Team: 11.
Of the athletes named, there were five former area athletes that earned 2018 Fall Academic All-Region Honors. For the Volleyball team, Caitlin Orton of North Central and Caitlin Kumm of Osmond were named 1st team Academic All-Region. Caleb Rihanek of Boyd County was named 1st team Academic All-Region on the men’s basketball team. Blake Mann of Burwell was named 1st team Academic All-Region on the women’s basketball team. Also, Jared Hammerlun of O’Neill was named 1st team Academic All-Region for the men’s soccer team.
“We are proud of the student-athletes who worked so hard during the fall semester to earn this award,” Dean of Student Life and Athletics Kurt Kohler said. “It once again demonstrates that Northeast student-athletes hold themselves and their teammates to a standard of excellence, and that the Hawks coaching staff continues to recruit and develop high character student-athletes who embody the Northeast Athletics philosophy and the mission of Northeast Community College.”
