The Midland’s Women’s Golf Team has an O’Neill High School connection.  Serving her first season as Assistant Coach is Allison (Depko) Pokorny.  Allison played golf at O’Neill High School and was a standout golfer for Midland receiving honors which included being named to the GPAC Conference 1st Team and also named a 2016 NAIA Daktronics Women’s Golf Scholar Athlete.

And to make the O’Neill High School connection even stronger Coach Pokorny has the opportunity to coach another O’Neill High School golfer, Hailee Harmon.  Harmon is a sophomore this year at Midland and in her short career has some nice top 20 finishes in tournaments.

With nearly perfect playing conditions Midland’s women’s golf team held off the competition on Monday, September 11,  at Fremont Golf Course. The Lady Warriors shot a 349 to win their home invitational by three strokes over College of Saint Mary (352).

Doane placed third with a 368 while Hastings and Concordia tied for fourth, with a 389. Midland’s second team rounded out the six team field with a team score of 391. Iowa Western had a quartet of individuals playing including Cassidy Evreniadis who won the individual title with an impressive round of 72.

Paige Mestl (81) and Jessica Rehtus (83) led the way for the Warriors. They placed second and third overall.

Tiffany Scheele (92), Klaire Nuttleman (93) and Hailee Harmon (93) rounded out the first team. Scheele tied for 12th while Nuttleman and Harmon split 15th place.

Midland will be back in action at the end of the week as they compete in the Lila Frommelt Invitational hosted by Briar Cliff. The two round invite begins on Friday with 18 holes at Two Rivers Golf Course in North Sioux City, S.D.
